Some refer to the British journalist Colin Watson's Flaxborough (population 15,000) stories as among the funniest in British crime fiction. The dozen or so traditional, well-plotted detective novels are entertaining pastiches on the traditional whodunit, full of hilarious understatement, strong characters and action-packed conclusions.
