Owens, Delia

The American zoologist Delia Owens didn’t make her debut as a literary author until she was almost seventy years old. Before that, she had lived an adventurous life together with her then husband, Mark, in Africa, where, for example, she studied lions and lived together with elephants for 23 years. Their life in the wilderness in Botswana and Zambia forms the background for the three non-fiction books Cry of the Kalahari (1984), The Eye of the Elephant (1992) and Secrets of the Savanna (2006). They were also animal-rights activists and combatted poaching. After the unsolved death of a poacher, they were put on the wanted list by the police and they left Africa for good. Delia Owens has also published texts in several scientific international journals.
