R.K. (Rasipuram Krishnaswamy) Narayan was one of India's greatest and most beloved authors, and his many stories about life in the city of Malgudi are constantly reprinted for new generations of readers. He was also one of the first Indian writers writing in English who established a reputation in Europe. Narayan has been called the "Chekhov of India", and for Graham Greene, who helped him find a British publisher, he was "the novelist I most admire in the English language."
