Norwegian-American poet and author. Hustvedt’s parents were both of Norwegian descent but later settled in the USA. Her father was a third-generation immigrant and her mother moved to America in 1954 to live with him. While studying at university in Oslo, Ester Vegan met Lloyd Hustvedt when he worked at the university as a professor. One year after moving to the USA, Siri Hustvedt was born – she was the eldest of four siblings. Ester was first a housewife, but later became a teacher of French. Lloyd was a teacher at a local college where he taught Literature and Norwegian.
