Earl Derr Biggers was an American journalist, theatre critic and the father of Charlie Chan, a Chinese detective from Honolulu and a classic character in crime fiction. Although Biggers only wrote six novels about Chan, he has been the subject of some fifty films, one television drama and two television series. New Charlie Chan stories have been written after the author's death by, among others, Dennis Lynds and Michael Avallone.
