The Danish author Vita Anderson was born in Copenhagen. Her father, the author Aage Neutzsky-Wulff (1891–1967) had many children with a number of wives, so Vita was just one among many. Because her mother had psychological problems Vita spent most of her time in children's homes and foster homes from the age of five and was later adopted by her aunt. Her father was an author, her mother was an aspiring author and her half-brother, Erwin Neutzsky-Wulff, became a well-known journalist and debater.
