Rothmann, Ralf

The German author Ralf Rothmann was born to a Catholic family in Schleswig, Schleswig-Holstein. He grew up in Oberhausen in the Ruhr district where his father was a miner. After completing school, Rothmann attended a vocational commercial school and then trained as a bricklayer. Before becoming a full-time author he worked on building sites, at a printers and in healthcare. He moved to West Berlin in 1976. Ralf Rothmann is married and lives in Berlin.
