Eduardo Mendoza Garriga is a Spanish author who lives in Barcelona. His father was a lawyer and his mother a housewife. He read law in the early 1960s, graduating from the University of Barcelona in 1965. In 1966 he spent a year in London on a scholarship. Mendoza embarked on a legal career in 1967, which he abandoned when he moved to New York as a United Nations translator and interpreter. He moved back to Barcelona in 1983 where he continued to work as an interpreter for various international organisations. He contributes to El País and he is a political commentator who speaks out against Catalan separatism. Eduardo Mendoza lives in Batea, Catalonia.
