Detective-story writer Camilla Läckberg has mainly killed people off in the village of Fjällbacka, on the west coast of Sweden, where she was born and grew up and feels at home. Her father was a policeman for a short period before he had to retire for health reasons, and from him she inherited her interest in reading and writing as well as a large collection of detective stories. She likes to describe how, when she was only four years old, she wrote her first book. Her parents had to write the captions and ‘the elf died already on page 4’. During her school writing lessons, she produced some morbid stories which led to her teacher inquiring what it was really like for her at home.
