The Icelandic author Einar Kárason was born in Reykjavik. While studying literature at university he had various jobs at sea and ashore and he wrote poems that were published in various literary magazines. In 1979, he moved to Copenhagen where he lived for a few years, working on his first two novels in the Danish National Library, before moving back to Iceland. He was president of the Icelandic Authors' Association between 1988 and 1992.
