Brian Harry Freemantle is a British writer and journalist. He was born in Southampton, Hampshire, where he attended Bitterne Park Secondary Modern School. After leaving school in 1953, Freemantle began working for local newspapers and was later employed at the New Milton Advertiser. In 1958, he moved to London where he was foreign editor as well as a foreign correspondent posted in some 30 different countries at the Evening News 1958–1960, the Daily Express 1960–1969, the Daily Sketch 1969–1970 and the Daily Mail 1970–1975.
