Aaron Elkins is an American crime writer born in Brooklyn, New York. He read anthropology and psychology at Hunter College, Manhattan (BA 1956), Madison University of Arizona, Tucson (MA 1960), and received a doctorate in Education from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1976. He has also taught at universities, primarily in California, but also in Heidelberg, Germany, between 1976 and 1978 and between 1984 and 1985. He has worked as a business consultant and for the federal and state governments. He has consulted the police on anthropological matters and has been a full-time writer since 1985. He married Toby Siev in 1959; they had two children before they divorced in 1979 when he married Charlotte Trangmar. He lives with his wife in Sequim, Washington.
