The British crime writer Stephen Booth was born in Burnley, Lancashire. He grew up in Blackpool where he moved with his family at the age of two and where he attended the Arnold School 1963–70. He wrote his first novel at the age of twelve. After attending Birmingham Polytechnic (today Birmingham City University), graduating with a BA in 1973, he moved to Manchester where he taught English for a short period.
