Jeffrey Howard Archer is a British author, former politician and peer of the realm surrounded by scandal. His thrillers and short stories are hugely popular, despite the fact that he has never found favour with the critics, his involvement in insider trading and being sentenced for perjury. None of this stopped him from his being knighted in 1992, adding Baron Archer of Weston-Super-Mare to his name in recognition of his later highly questionable charitable work.
